I love the color of this sweater.  To others, it may be just plain old mustard colored but for me, it's pumpkin spice.  It represents the beautiful change of seasons from the greener summer colors to the richer warm shades of fall.  Also, it's the color of pumpkins.  Yes, I like to wear my pumpkin and eat it too.

Starbucks started the seasonal pumpkin spice craze with their P.S.L. (that's Pumpkin Spice Latte for those of you still living under a rock) and now it's showing up in your neighborhood supermarket.  Some companies are offering Pumpkin Spice flavored creamer and cookies if you're looking to play barista at home.  Not sure how close the taste will be to the coffee shop version though.

If you're over the pumpkin spice craze or don't take it too seriously, check out the SNL skit below for a few laughs.

Fall Florals

Two Birds Platform Pumps - Seychelles (old)

I really love wallpaper prints and floral is one of my favorites.  Must be the old lady in me.  Anyway, if you love floral prints and want to wear them through fall and winter without looking out of place, here are some tips on what to look for:
  1. Look for prints that are darker with black or jewel tone colors like my tunic above.
  2. Look for floral prints on heavier fabrics like wool, brocade and cashmere.
  3. If you have a floral print piece that doesn't fall into the either of the above category, no fear! You can still wear it.  Coordinate your other pieces to one of the darker colors from the print to bring out the fall look by pairing them with heavier fabrics like corduroy, thicker weight denim and cotton.
Coordinate doesn't mean you have to match the colors exactly, it just has to be within the same color family to make the outfit look put together.  Adding in some layers to any of the above will also help to make your entire ensemble more cold-weather appropriate.

What's your favorite print to rock through fall and winter?

It's my birthday

Today is my birthday.  As I reflect back on life, I realize that even though I've racked up another year on this wonderful earth, I still feel like the same little kid who loved to play with her Barbie dolls and jump off rooftops with the neighborhood kids.  Except now I have bills to pay and children of my own to take care of...and my body would kill me if try to do half the acrobatic things I did as a kid.  Still, there are some benefits of growing older: you have more self-confidence, care less about what others think, and you look better (all those years of experimenting with makeup and fashion helps).

Sure there were some missed opportunities and wrong turns made along my journey to 30 but I'm right where I need to be.  And as they say, life is an adventure!  I still have many more decades to go with plenty more life experiences to learn from and accomplishments to achieve!

Wherever you are on the age spectrum, don't compare yourself to others around you and think you have to have certain things by the time you're a certain age.  I know it's much harder not to nowadays with social media everywhere but as Michelle Grano from Thought Catalog so brilliantly put it: "Ages are not milestones. Milestones are milestones. You are what you have experienced. Not how long you’ve been around."

So go on, live your life your way.
