I was recently given the opportunity to review some Jouer products for Birchbox as part of their Birchblogger program. If you're not familiar with Birchbox, they are a subscription beauty box program that sends out five or six personalized deluxe samples of name brand beauty products for $10 per month. What I love about Birchbox is that you earn points for each sample review you give on their website. As you accumulate more points, you can redeem those points for credits which can be used to purchase anything in the Birchbox Shop including full-sized products of your favorite samples.
I became a fan of Jouer ever since I saw their work
for Kate Spade at the 2012 Fall New York Fashion Week and own their
Matte Moisture Tint, Lip/Cheek Tint and Mineral Powder Blush so I was
excited to try their new signature fragrance and body butter.
Jouer Signature Fragrance Roller Boll, 0.24 fl. oz. $42.00
The Birchbox website describes it as: Bursting with heady notes of jasmine,
Jouer’s signature scent has the ability to instantly lift our spirits. A
single whiff conjures up images of fragrant botanical gardens. A
Birchbox exclusive, this slim retro-inspired rollerball makes a
beautiful addition to your purse or vanity.
First off, the fragrance reminds me of a house we were looking at during our house hunting days. The backyard had a veranda with jasmine growing on the trellis and you could smell a hint of the jasmine as you stepped outside. The roller ball fragrance has a very clean floral feminine scent with no musk. It is a unique scent which I don't think anyone has bottled yet and will be great as a spring/summer perfume.
As for the packaging, I love roller ball scents as they're portable and takes up less space on
the vanity than full sized bottles. I like throwing roller balls in my purse since I'm always rushing
out the door in the mornings. The glass bottle has a nice weight to it and feels very sturdy. Though it is a little on the small side compared to other roller ball fragrances on the market, keep in mind that this is a perfume oil and has higher level of fragrance concentration as opposed to an eau de toilette. The perfume fragrance will last longer and will not need to be applied as often as an eau de toilette fragrance.
Jouer Body Butter, 3.32oz $32.00
The Birchbox website describes it as: We pay plenty of attention to the skin on
our face, but often forget about the rest of our body. This intensely
hydrating butter is exactly what your limbs need. The formula is loaded
with naturally nourishing ingredients like shea butter, jojoba, and
coconut oil, and sinks in quickly to rehydrate skin. Thanks to the
subtle blend of gardenia, jasmine, and honeysuckle scents, you’ll smell
as good as you feel.
lighter counterpart to the perfume roller ball, the body butter is
great for layering or for just a hint of fragrance by itself. I'm
actually really amazed that this smells like a fragrance and not a
lotion trying to smell like a fragrance if that makes sense. It doesn't
have any of the chemical smell that some lotions that comes in the
fragrance gift sets have and smells just like a flower garden. The
whipped texture is light but rich at the same time. It's very
moisturizing and perfect for dry winter skin. I use it at night and
wake up with smooth skin. Of the two products, I would definitely recommend the body butter for it's dual usage (fragrance + lotion).
